So oneof the first things I did well the veryfirst thing I did was got rid of mybrand new car and I got that for thosewho’ve seen the documentary the tour busthat we have the 2004 Toyota Corolla Iwent and got that because it had no carpayment on it it’s kind of set deck andeverything yeah it’s only loaded I stillhave that card leaks when it rains but Ilove it every time it rains on my headI’m like this is so much better than acar payment but uh but yeah then thenext thing was was getting rid of myhome so um I actually rented it outbecause I couldn’t sell it because I wasso upside down on it I did get rid of itI finally dumped it off eventually butbut yeah for me minimalism it wasit was going to help me take take backcontrol of my finances and that wasreally the first so my stuff and then Ireally sort of focused on my financesand when I sold a Nice Dragonfly Be Kind shirt lot of that stuffwhich I spent tens of thousands ofdollars on and I lost tens of thousandsof dollars because you know you can’ttell for what you what you paid for ityeah I was. And kind ofwhat messages or what you’ve learnedhelps people get over some of thosestruggles getting started and to get youstarted thinking about that oneobservation I’ve had is that I know alot more men than women who seem to bebetter at keeping their life pared downso it’s wondering if there’s genderthing going on and then another thing isin Vermontsome of us label ourselves asenvironmentalists and we don’t like towaste things so if there’s any kind ofanti waste thing that makes it hard forpeople but and any other ideas shetotally cheated with like threequestions well played yeah well I thinkit’s interesting because we’re living inan interesting time and I don’t thinkthe idea of minimalism is new likeintentional living Ryan and I didn’tcome up with this concept right but Iknow I told you that at first man but umII know I I think that that we’re it’san old idea like an old wisdom but we’refacing a new problem and that isunchecked consumerism at a level thatthe world has has never seen and it’sbecause of a lot of. Able to start paying downdebt and live a much more meaningfullifeI remember after Ryan’s packing partyall this stuff was still packed up in inhis second living room which wasactually sort of the there was this fouryear was house was so nice it was a fouryay but it was you walked through theFourier and into his second living roomyet all these boxes and you walk beyondthat and that the house soundeddifferent and I’m like so this is thesound of minimalism because the ia wouldreverberate a bit more and you realizethat a lot of the stuff that we have wedid you see our documentary by chance Idid okay great so so for those youhaven’t seen it’s a documentary calledminimalism a documentary about theimportant things and this guy holdingthe camera right here is the guy who’sresponsible for it’s not the Avellaladies and gentlemen he is a extremelytalented director and we’re gratefulthat he was able to take severalthousand hours of our nonsense and putit into a coherent narrative but anywaywith the documentary we interviewed

Have things that they maynot use for a year or two some of myorganized friends they’ve got a specificspace set aside where they keep all ofthat stuff and when that space gets fullthey will start to remove some thingsand replace it with otherdifferent equipment or supplies thatthey want to that they want to use inthe future so making rules like that cancertainly help you know I Ryan and Idiffer quite a bit on on this topic Ithink personally think that collectingis dangerous and if you just pull up adictionary or thesaurus you’ll find thatsynonym for collecting is hoarding andso I think collections are inherentlydangerous as well that they aren’tnecessarily evil or but but they can getin the way because we we can justifythem very easily and so what I say is ifyou have a collection that truly addsvalue to your life that brings you somuch joy that or you’re able to use itquite frequently then great hold on toit but don’t justify it by saying wellit completes my collection while yourcollection doesn’t actually complete.
